Since I have been deprived of my hot morning shower for the 10th July in a row, the topic of this week’s column was something of a no-brainer. But I will go easy on Mayor Yury Luzhkov because quite frankly I like the guy - and not because he just installed a brand-new Otis elevator in my building (with some help, of course). Luzhkov strikes me as a politician who really sympathizes with the plight of the people. Why, I’ll even wager a bet that on those mornings when his hot water is suddenly turned off while he is covered in a soapy lather he curses Anatoly Chubais just as loud as the next foamy guy. Of course, poor Chubais (probably) has nothing to do with Moscow’s dubious hot water supply, but it is natural and even fun to blame him for every municipal breakdown. Anyways, if Mayor Luzhkov says that my pipes need cleaned every goddamn year, well, who am I to argue with him? Full article.
