Who Uses The Most Water In Atlanta?

Only Mother Nature can break our historic drought. But if the rest of us do our part we can ease the impact and stretch our resources.

Understandably, those making sacrifices want to make sure everybody is making sacrifices.

Many of us think industry is the biggest user, and therefore waster of water. Of the 650 million gallons of water used in Metro Atlanta every day, industry uses 3 percent.

“In order for industry to be competitive,” explained Chick Kraulter, director of the Atlanta Regional Commission. “They have to be efficient, so they’re using their water efficiently.”

The public use of water in government buildings for instance, is 3 percent of the local water total. The non-revenue use of water in hydrants and the leakage from water pipes, accounts for 18 percent, and commercial entities like hotels, restaurants and office parks use 21 percent…
