Inmates Taking Quicker Showers

There are prisons in Georgia where inmates use as much as 5 million gallons of water each month. In an effort to reduce, some inmates may get a little dirty behind the ears.

As Georgia continues to struggle with a severe drought, inmates are now limited to one shower a day, five minutes per shower.

“There’s actually a timer on the shower,” said Department of Corrections spokesman Paul Czachowski. “You push a button and it times it so that water cuts on and when it cuts off, it’s time to move on.”

At Metro Correctional Institution, Warden Kevin Roberts has explained to his inmates that Georgia’s water supply is in peril, and that failing to conserve could affect them and their families…
