Wheelchair-using 56-year-old has been waiting for 14 months for accessible stall.

Donald MacDonald isn’t asking for anything luxurious.
The disabled Halifax man just wants to be able to take a shower without worrying about falling and hurting himself.
Fourteen months ago, he requested that his landlord, the Metropolitan Regional Housing Authority, install a wheelchair-accessible shower stall in his apartment.
He’s still waiting.
Mr. MacDonald, who lives alone in his ground-floor unit, said Thursday he expected better treatment from the public housing agency.
“I really trusted them,” he said of the housing authority.
Three times a week, Mr. MacDonald positions his wheelchair next to his shower stall and struggles to pulls himself up so he can shuffle into a chair in the shower.
It’s not an easy task, he said, and it’s only going to get tougher.
The 56-year-old was told recently he has to have carpal-tunnel surgery on both arms that will make it harder for him to get around in his wheelchair for six months. Continue reading…
