Media Newswire:

An Altona plastics manufacturing plant will step up its water saving efforts by installing new water efficient showerheads for employee use, Water Minister John Thwaites said.

Mr Thwaites said that manufacturer Qenos was replacing 50 conventional showerheads with three star water efficient showerheads as part of the company?s continuing efforts to save water.

‘Qenos employees are also supporting Melbourne’s water saving efforts ? taking advantage of the Bracks Government’s showerhead exchange program in their own homes,’ he said.

‘Showerheads are one of the cheapest and most effective ways to cut water use - with each showerhead saving an average household up to 20,000 litres per year. This is around the same amount as a small rain water tank.

‘The savings will not end at work for as many as 500 Qenos employees at Altona, with City West Water exchanging old showerheads for new, water efficient models.’
