Brown Velvet Hat:

Showers are the only place I feel completely safe and relaxed. To help you discover the calm serenity of a good shower, here are detailed instructions for your showering pleasure.

In taking a shower, the first thing to do is collect your materials. Obviously, you will need a bathroom with a working shower, preferably one with hot water. Find shampoo, conditioner, body wash of some kind, a washcloth or loofah, a towel, and a bath mat to keep the floor dry. Take your clothes off. Lay down the bath mat. Turning on a fan, if available, will keep the air circulating and prevent mold, but this is not necessary. Turn on the water. The most desirable temperature is warm, almost hot to the touch. Extremely hot or cold showers are not relaxing.

Once the water is comfortable, step into the shower. Please draw the shower curtain shut behind you and make sure it is tucked in, otherwise your bathroom will be the location of the second flood. Stand under the water and begin to relax. Take this time to relax your shoulders, roll your neck around a few times. Reflect on the busy events of your life for a few seconds, and then let them fly down the drain with the water.

Now get your hair very wet. You may think this would be easy, but sometimes it takes a few moments, especially if your hair is thick. Get it very wet, and find your shampoo. Open the bottle, and squeeze a small amount into your hand. If you have short hair, a dollop the size of a nickel is enough, but a dollop the size of a quarter is necessary for people with longer hair. Rub your hands together to lather the shampoo, and then rub it into your hair. A vigorous head massage is very relaxing, and some say that this will make your hair grow faster. Remember that your shower is the beginning of your day. Treat it like a luxury.

The next step is to rinse the shampoo from your hair. Checking if the water running off your hair is clear is a good way to tell if it is completely rinsed. Find your conditioner and undo the lid. You will need more conditioner than shampoo – squeeze a ping-pong ball sized amount onto the palm of your hand.

Girls with longer hair may need more. Rub this into your hair quite well but don’t rinse it out yet. Conditioner works best when left in your hair for at least 60 seconds, so take this time to wash your body. Grab your body wash and washcloth or loofah, and lather it up. I personally start washing my body at the end of my left arm, wash my torso, right arm, then left and right legs. You may choose any pattern you like, but make sure to scrub thoroughly, especially on rough spots like your feet, knees, and elbows. Once you are squeaky clean, you may rinse off the soap.

This is the best part of the shower. You are now free to do whatever extraneous silly things you want. Washing your face, cleaning your nails, shaving, wiping down the bathtub, brushing your teeth, or anything else you can think of can be done here. However, I choose to spend this part of my shower in song, and I highly recommend you do as well. Singing in the shower brightens the rest of your day. Sing anything you want. Don’t be afraid! No one can hear you. To fully enhance your shower experience with song, please experiment with gender and/or race switching songs – for example, “Old Man River” if female, and Shania Twain’s “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” if male.

Once you have completed your concert, your shower is almost done. Rinse the conditioner out of your hair, but not completely. A little conditioner not completely rinsed out will help make your hair soft and shiny. Turn off the water. Slick excess water off of you before opening the shower curtain. Open the shower curtain, and step out of the tub. Be careful! It may be slippery. Grab your towel, conveniently placed on the counter, and dry yourself off. Wrap yourself in your towel, pick up the bath mat, wipe off any water on the floor, and pick up your clothes. You have just finished a wonderful shower! Take this relaxed feeling with you throughout the rest of your day.
